Tired

I officially tired out 3 out of 4 of my sisters today.  (Pretty sure I tired the other one out too, she just doesn't live at my parent's house so I wasn't able to hear her complain like the other ones did.)

I took my sisters to get hair cuts this morning then met one of my bridesmaids and closest friends for lunch at Baker's Crust in Short Pump.  Tomato Mozzarella Panini...yum!

After a good lunch, Shannon joined my sisters and I on a last minute shopping trip all over Short Pump.  We were looking for rehearsal and brunch dresses, strapless bras, shoes, bathing suits, and everything in between.  It was a great afternoon spent with girls that mean so much to me.

After shopping we felt like we needed a much deserved break and headed to Gelati Celeste.  This is hands-down the best Ice Cream...EVER.  It's about 1 minute from my parent's house and is a local place that you can't possibly go to without seeing someone you know or recognize.  Their new flavor today was Rainbow Cookie Ice Cream.  If you are from Richmond, VA or have ever been to a Ukrop's then you know how amazing this combination sounds.  I can't say that I was disappointed, but it wasn't quite as good as I thought it would be.  I'll stick with my usual favorites next time.

Once we got home we all kicked it in to High Gear and worked on wedding stuff.

It looked a little like this...

All of these jars had to be powerwashed, rinsed, dried, and have ribbons added.  We got through washing 30 out of the 50 that we have.  It was fun to get in to old clothes and go out in the sun on the back patio with the hose and my sisters.  Tomorrow promises to not be any easier since we have 20 more jars and many other projects to wrap up!

We're a mere 6 days away!  Woo Hoo!!!!

Things I'm excited about

These past few weeks have been pretty stressful and the next two weeks promise to be the same.  Instead of getting wrapped up in all of the small stuff I wanted to blog about some things that I'm really excited about right now.

1) I'm leaving WV tomorrow and the next time I come back, Matt and I will be married!

2) Wedding details are finally falling in to place.  Matt was nice enough to help me put a big dent in my to-do list last night which included...
Finish table info.
Wrap presents
Finish Richmond booklets
Get day-of insurance
Print programs
Make final payments
Finalize Ceremony/Reception Music

3) We bought sunscreen for our honeymoon.  I'm thinking about the wedding so much that I have managed to forget how excited we are for our trip to Antigua!

4) The apartment always felt like a place that I visited.  Now it feels lived in to me.  There is a place for everything and the move is finally complete!

5) Matt and I have a dance lesson this weekend which means we get 1 hour to just be together and focus on helping each other out.

6) Our good friends just had a baby and we may get to meet him this weekend.  I love the smell, feel, and cuddle of a newborn baby!

7) I'm so excited that I have blogged for the three months before the wedding, because I really am at that point now where I'm thinking "where have the past few months gone?"  Time seems to continue to fly by and since I can't make it slow down, I'm at least happy that I have some way to go back and look at what I was doing and what was going through my head each week!

Wedding Wednesday

I'm happy to report that the making of the church decorations is starting.

I am not so happy to report that I can get through punching 2 papers worth of flowers before my hand cramps so bad that I can't hold anything anymore.  Needless to say, I have enlisted some help from Matt on this task.

The finished product is so cute!  Thanks Mal for the inspiration/helping me find everything/and your help next week on making many more of these!

My other crafts that I have been in the process of making are the signs for outside of the church.  Yesterday Matt gave me the arrows that he cut out and I finally did all of the painting and put on all of the letters.  When we were procrastinating moving furniture last night, we finally finished the signs.  These pictures don't do them justice (in my opinion).  They are so cute in person...so cute that even Matt (every time he walks by them) tells me how good they turned out!  So excited to put them out in front of the church!

Yet another day of compromises

I'm sensing a theme here.  When Matt moved to WV last year he really started from scratch.  While he asked my opinion on nearly everything he picked out for the apartment, I made a clear decision not to say if I did or did not like something, because this was his apartment for a full year and I wanted it to be everything that he liked.  From a basic standpoint of would this go in the living room/bedroom/kitchen I would say yes or no.

I feel like I have to preface this with the fact that Matt and I have two completely different tastes.  Most guys let their significant others decorate away and do whatever they want because heaven forbid them have an opinion on home decorating (how un-manly).  I'm lucky enough to be marrying someone that actually cares about what is put where and if that matches the rest of the room or not.  We have spent countless hours discussing pieces of furniture (when I find myself saying "make a decision already").  I think this stems back from furniture shopping with my mom (another long process).

Let me give you a little visual...

Matt's taste

My taste

Now everyone would agree that both kitchens are beautiful, and I would never complain about having either one, but seriously...here it is easy to tell where our styles are slightly different.

Here is the bedroom set that Matt picked out for his apartment last year.

We have the bed and long dresser with mirror.  In the next few days we will be getting the tall dresser so that I can unpack all of my clothes!!!

This is the furniture that will be in our bedroom for probably a good portion of our future, and I'm so excited to start blending our styles!  (However hard it may be...and yes, that picture over the bed...Matt found almost the exact same one and hung it over his bed too).

This could get interesting.  As we were updating our wedding registry last night we hit a snag in the bedding aisle.  Matt picked out all of the dark comforters and I was going for all of the lights and pastels.  We found a few that we could compromise on...because I realized that my light pastel comforters may look a little weird with all dark wood furniture.

So far I've gotten my way on the dishes (simple, classic, chic white corelle), Matt's gotten his way  on all of the furniture in the apartment...and now we'll have to compromise on the decorating.  Yikes!

Auntie Em! It's a Twister!

That is what my sisters and I continually said over and over last night.  Thankfully I was in Richmond running wedding errands and managed to avoid the awful weather that took place in Farmville, VA.  I did happen to get the 1242435 texts that Longwood sent out - warnings, watches, and then my favorite..."resume normal activities".

The days are getting longer and crazier the closer we get to the wedding.  Yesterday after leaving work I went straight to the DJ (in Chesterfield) to drop off a payment and discuss having a final meeting.  It was a little stressful having her ask me questions that I wasn't prepared to answer.  I mean I could have answered them, but of course I wanted Matt's input before making any decisions.  After that meeting I headed out shopping for the final touches on the Bridesmaid's gifts.  Followed that with picking up jewelry, my headpiece, and a bridesmaid dress at David's Bridal...it was a crazy day of wedding errands.

I also got to see Cassidy's softball game (good job, Cass!) and make a quick trip over to visit with Matt's parents.  We got our first big wedding present from Matt's Aunt and Uncle!

So excited!!!!  (Thanks Uncle David and Aunt Trenace!!!!)

According to my sister, she now has vacuum envy.  I can't wait to get it to WV and test it out!!!
(P.S - this is another one of those moments when I quietly wonder to myself when I hit the age that I get excited about a vacuum?)

Wedding Wednesday

We got our Marriage License!

This week is shaping up to be a crazy one!  I just yesterday set our last appointment with the florist, for my final dress fitting, with the Deacon, and finally with the reception venue to go over the final details.

Among a long list of other things that I am getting done this week, I'm also attempting to finish up Bridesmaid presents, work on the seating chart, and finish up some personal details.

These next few weeks are going to fly by!  We are officially 1 month and 1 day away from taking the plunge!!!

Bachelorette Party

Last night we got to go see Matt's cousin pitch for VA Tech.  We are so excited for the opportunities that he has!  It was great to see him out there, and they got the win!

I love that Spring has finally sprung!  At Matt's parent's house there is a nest with baby birds and I could sit there and watch them for hours!

Woo Hoo!  Today was my bachelorette party!  I'm not the stripper/trashy bar/bachelorette scavenger hunt type of girl.  And by that, I mean that I hate doing anything that may embarrass myself or make me the center of attention.  Luckily my Maid of Honor had a great idea of doing a wine tour.  We had a delicious brunch at her parent's house then got picked up by a limo and headed out to the countryside of VA to tour 3 amazing wineries.  It was a great day spent with family, friends and delicious wine!

Here are the personalized wine bottles and the cookies that the Maid of Honor made!

Loved the cute decor courtesy of Etsy

Also another great Etsy find -
These Glass Tatz that I got for all of the girls to decorate their wine glasses!

And here we are at Cooper Vineyards!

It was a great day and I was so appreciative off all of the girls in my life that were there to celebrate with me!

Wedding Wednesday - Part 2

Last wedding Wednesday was the first part of my 50 ideas, designs, inspirations, and suggestions for wedding planning list.

Here is the rest of the list!

26) Start wedding invitations 5 months before the big day!  You'll need at least a month to order them and have them delivered.  Then you'll want a month for addressing/stamping/stuffing.  Finally, invitations (according to TheKnot are supposed to be mailed 3 months in advance).  The RSVP date is supposed to be around a month before the wedding.  This gives people ample time to get it on their calendars and take care of any conflicts.

27) Save The Dates are a very cute idea and should go out as soon as the date is set.  For Matt and I, we knew that our family and friends would already know the date by word of mouth and we didn't really see a need, so we spared the expense.  I feel like Save the Dates are just a current trend (much like cupcakes instead of wedding cakes).  I find myself to be somewhat traditional and really don't get the point. (but do find this cute)

28) If you buy your own vases you can cut down on your centerpiece cost...alot!  Trust me on this one.  The florist has to make a profit on everything so why give them something else to mark up?  Plus with this...then family and friends can take the centerpieces home (as opposed to renting from the florist and having to worry about getting them back).

29) Try to tie in as many traditions as possible, but don't do anything you don't want to do.  For example...I love the tradition of an anniversary dance.  This is when all married couples are called to the dance floor for a slow dance.  The DJ progressively calls for the couple who has been married less than 1 day to exit.  Then the couples that have been married less than 1 year...then less than 5 years, 10, 15 and so on.  Finally the couple that has been married the longest is left on the dance floor.  I do NOT however like the money dance.  This is where the bride and groom stand up and any guest can pay money to dance with the bride and groom.  Just weird to me.  Just because it is a tradition, doesn't mean I'm doing it!

30) Splurge the $35 and fill out all of your name change forms/legal documents at Weddingvendors.com.  This website is a life saver.  All of that legal jargon that I don't understand is simplified.  You fill out some basic questions...they fill out the forms...you download, print them and send them off to the respective offices!

31) Weigh your invitations (include all envelopes/cards/etc) before you purchase stamps so that you know you have the right amount of postage.

32) For a fun, personalized touch...I would recommend zazzle.com.  They have great personalized postage!

33) From the day that you book each vendor...don't let time slip away.  Take that booking date and figure out how many months you have before the wedding.  Divide the total amount you owe on that vendor (minus whatever deposit you put down) and make monthly payments.  I've heard of people putting their entire wedding on credit cards, and for Matt and I we decided that wasn't an option.  We want our wedding to be paid for by the day of so we aren't worried about the expenses after the fact.  Stay on top of those payments though.

34) Have a hand in the making of your program.  Some churches will offer to do it for you if you are getting married there, but then you could end up with some ancient looking program.  If you want it to reflect your (you and your fiance's) personalities then you may have to go out and do it on your own.

35) For someone like myself (and many other brides out there) we have opted to do the entire thing on our own.  No wedding planner means a somewhat more stressful day.  Staying organized is key to not losing your cool and making sure everything is set up how you envision it.  My reception location and florist have been more than willing to help with all of my needs, so to make their jobs a little easier...I plan on doing this...

36) Always have back-up plans.  My cake lady called and canceled yesterday.  Although it was a legitimate excuse, it doesn't make the fact that I am 46 days away from my wedding and without a cake any less stressful.  Luckily I have a florist that also makes amazing (and delicious) cakes.  Thank god for her pulling through!

Here are some of her beautiful cakes (Pam Albney)

And here is a wedding where she did the flowers and the cake

37) Make"Day-Of" Timelines for everyone in the bridal party, parents, and friends that are helping out.  This will ensure everyone knows when they are supposed to be at certain places.  You can give these timelines out at the rehearsal.

38) Let your fiance golf the morning of the wedding...you'll be so busy doing other things...who cares.  If it makes him happy, let him do it.
(this would fall under the pick and choose your battles category)

39) A perk of having a wedding planner is that they have connections with vendors who they use on a regular basis and can get deals from.  If you're doing it on your own...use websites where you can order in bulk.  Also, if you have time on your side (meaning at least a year to plan) then you can watch the websites and wait for when what you want goes on sale and get it then.  I would recommend these sites...

40) Make fun signs and add personal touches.

41) Plan time after the ceremony and before the reception to steal away with your new hubby for some quality down-time together.  (but invite the photographer along to capture it)

42) The very first thing I bought for the wedding were color swatches.  I sat on the floor with a bunch of friends and family members (all girls) and we mixed and matched until I came up with something I loved, and everyone else thought was pretty too!

43) Tie in your venue to other details.  Here the couple was married at the LA museum of Natural History.  You can see how they tied it in to their invites...
Matt and I are getting married in Downtown Richmond and will have booklets for people to look through during the cocktail hour that will describe to them what they are seeing in the city.

44) Watch wedding videos.  When the stress starts getting to me, I watch other people's wedding videos and it reminds me about how wonderful the day will be.
Scroll down to the bottom of this website to watch this creative wedding video!
(The song they sing at the beginning is the song that my sisters all say Matt and I should dance to)

45) This isn't a suggestion - but it is an idea...I have no hope of my daughter(s) wearing my wedding dress and it's nothing that I'm ever going to touch again.  Instead of the stuffy, typical, bridal portraits I'm doing what they call "Trash the Dress".  This is when you get dressed up in your wedding dress after the wedding and take amazing pictures (that require ruining the dress).  I'm so excited!

46) Do research on the best places to register.  Update your registry as much as possible.  Right before showers (so people have multiple options at different price points) right after showers, and right before the wedding.

47) Have fun picking out accessories that you are in love with!

48) If you are having a Christian Wedding Ceremony make sure to take time and research possible readings.  Matt gave me a ring in High school that I wore until the day we got engaged.  It said Faith, Hope and Love.

Because of that, our reading will be 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13

1 If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. 9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

49) Don't every lose sight of what the day is really about.  The best thing for me throughout the entire last year has been those days that I get to spend time with just Matt and we're able to talk about how excited we are to start our life together.

 50) Don't sweat the small stuff!  It will all fall in place!  (I try to tell myself this daily)

Travel Monday

Two months (exactly) from today, Matt and I will be flying home from our honeymoon.

It is absolutely crazy to me to think that in two short months, all of the planning that we've done this last year will be over.  I'm pretty worried that the wedding blues are going to hit - hard.  In an attempt to make sure I don't fall in to some deep depression, I'm thinking about taking some summer weekend trips with Matt.

Hopefully this will satisfy my needs to be constantly planning or doing something.

Believe it or not, Matt is only a few short hours from Cleveland, Ohio.  It may not seem like a glamorous city, but I've never visited Ohio and the thought of going to Columbus when I've been raised to hate the Buckeyes just disgusts me, so Cleveland may be a great short weekend trip.  The city looks like a lot of fun and it would be cool to see one of the great lakes (Lake Erie).

Source: Visit Cleveland

Charleston, West Virginia also happens to only be a few hours from Louisville, Kentucky.  I have visited Louisville, but never with Matt.  I'm excited for him to take me places he's been before (Cleveland) and for me to take him places that I've been before (Louisville).  I can't wait to travel and explore as newlyweds.  I loved touring the Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum and really want to take Matt there!

Any family or friends that read this and want to tag along on any of these trips...let me know!  We would love to have company!
